Spain, or Espana in Spanish, is on the Iberian peninsula of southern Europe. Spain's border on the south and east is the Mediterranean Sea (except for a small land border with Gibraltar). To the north Spain has borders with France and Andorra, and the west by Portugal. The Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean and the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean are also Spanish Territories.
Spain is the second largest country in Western Europe after France. The climate of Spain is warm throughout the country but varies from a continental Mediterranean climate in the inland areas of the Spanish peninsula around Madrid and a Mediterranean climate extending from the Andalusian plain along the southern and Eastern coasts. The warm sirocco wind blowing from the Sahara blows on the seaward side of the Spanish mountain ranges near the coast. In the Canary Islands the climate is humid and sub-tropical with all-year warmth.
